Over the last few decades, the Jaén region in Peru has developed into a coffee monoculture, which has resulted in farmers now being heavily dependent on food from other regions. With government restrictions on Corona containment, transportation costs and food prices have increased. Since then, many families have struggled with their food security, which has reduced livelihoods.
Many farmers from the Asociación Café del Futuro are also affected by this. The cooperative was founded in 2007 and stands for high-quality coffees with selected varieties and a strong focus on certified coffee. The farmers mainly cultivate varieties such as Caturra, Bourbon, and Mundo Novo, which flourish well between the provinces of Jaén and San Ignacio. Our importer has a close partnership with Asociación Café del Futuro, which they visited in 2019, and have been sourcing coffee from them ever since.
With the support of our importer, which want to build a sustainable solution that will improve the livelihood and food security of 105 coffee-producing families. With the purchase of one of the three qualities of Asociación Café del Futuro, you support the implementation of local vegetable gardens in order to increase food security. Each coffee-producing family receives 10 raised beds of 7.5 square meters as well as seeds from regional vegetables, tools, and know-how.
